Frankfurt a.M., Germany, 28. November 2025 – Haltermann Carless and Neste have signed an extended license agreement to maximise the potential of the NEXSAT™ hydrogenation technology. By leveraging and expanding the full operational flexibility of the technology, Haltermann Carless will shift its production to process a broader range of feedstocks at its Speyer site in Germany, producing innovative, high-grade hydrocarbon products for various applications.
“With this contract extension, we are taking our collaboration with Neste to the next level,” said Dr. Arne Hoppe, Chief Commercial Officer at Haltermann Carless. “The ability to explore new raw materials, including renewable and locally sourced feedstocks, strengthens our capacity to offer customers sustainable next-generation solutions produced in Germany, reducing climate impact.”
Originally the processing focused on the production of pentanes and middle distillates. The extended contract now covers the entire naphtha boiling range, bridging the gap between light and heavy molecules from variable origins.
“Using the full potential of the NEXSAT™ hydrogenation technology enhances Haltermann Carless' expertise to produce high-purity solvents used in a wide range of industries such as active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis, adhesive formulations, and process solvents”, said Dr. André Rosehr, Manager Technical Services & Development at Haltermann Carless.
“Neste’s NEXSAT™ technology was developed to process a wide variety of feedstocks, including renewable raw materials, by removing aromatics and olefins efficiently,” said Dr. Lars Peter Lindfors, Senior Vice President for Technology and Innovation at Neste. “We are pleased to see Haltermann Carless fully leveraging the flexibility of our technology enabling them to deliver new products that meet evolving customer needs while showcasing the robustness and adaptability of our process.”
Commissioned in 2022, the Speyer hydrogenation unit is based on Neste’s proprietary NEXSAT™ technology, which allows the production of high-purity hydrocarbons and specialty chemicals. With this latest agreement, both companies reinforce their partnership and commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer-oriented development of flexible hydrocarbon processes and products.
