Chemical company Haltermann Carless and clean-tech company INERATEC have entered into a strategic partnership as part of the ERA T.H2 project, the first commercial Power-and-Biomass-to-Liquid (PBtL) project. Together, the companies aim to accelerate the industrial deployment and market introduction of sustainable e-fuels and other renewable hydrocarbons across Europe.

Haltermann Carless and INERATEC have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for strategic cooperation within the ERA T.H2 project, with the goal of advancing the industrial deployment and commercialisation of sustainable e-fuels and renewable hydrocarbons in Europe. The chemical company intends to purchase a significant amount of bio-e-SAF and bio-e-Naphtha annually for a minimum period of ten years following the plant’s commissioning.

ERA T.H2: Europe’s first commercial Power-and-Biomass-to-e-Fuel project
The ERA T.H2 project is among the world’s first commercial Power-and-Biomass-to-Liquids (PBtL) facilities. Located in Normandy, France, the plant will use sustainably sourced residual wood biomass from the region together with renewable energy to produce synthetic fuels and hydrocarbons. Commissioning is scheduled for 2029.
Starting in 2031, the facility is expected to process approximately 60,000 tonnes of residual wood biomass annually, sourced from regional forests and industrial operations. Through gasification, these residues will be converted into syngas, which will then be transformed using INERATEC’s technology into at least 13,000 tonnes of Fischer-Tropsch products per year, including e-SAF for aviation and basic chemical feedstocks such as e-Naphtha.
By combining biomass utilisation with advanced fuel synthesis, the ERA T.H2 project will establish a new industrial circular value chain in the Normandy region. Locally sourced residual biomass will be converted into sustainable synthetic fuels that can contribute to the decarbonization of aviation and other hard-to-abate sectors, including the chemical industry.
The project benefits from strong regional support and builds on Normandy’s long-standing industrial heritage, a region in which Haltermann Carless has maintained operations through its own site for many years.
