STIHL’s 100-year anniversary is characterised by continuous innovation and the development of high-performance power tools. In its centenary year, STIHL is also setting a new milestone in fuel development with the launch of MotoMix 100.
MotoMix 100 is a specialist fuel for two-stroke engines made from biogenic feedstocks and certified bio-circular material. Of the feedstocks used, 55% come from ISCC-certified biogenic sources, while the remaining 45% consist of ISCC-certified bio-circular material allocated using the mass balance approach. MotoMix 100 achieves a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuel. (1)
The development of the MotoMix product range is underpinned by the development partnership between STIHL and Haltermann Carless, with both companies contributing their respective areas of expertise. STIHL brings extensive experience in the development and application of power tools and drive systems, while Haltermann Carless contributes its expertise in the formulation and development of specialty fuels.
Dr Bruno Philippon, General Manager Division Performance Fuels at Haltermann Carless, said:
“The successful collaboration with STIHL demonstrates what can be achieved when many years of application expertise are combined with in-depth fuel knowledge. MotoMix 100 shows how renewable and circular feedstocks can open up new opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, even in established combustion technologies, without compromising on performance and reliability.”
Jürgen Häberlein, Senior Vice President Innovationen bei ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co. KG, said:
“Since the introduction of MotoMix, our aim has been to offer users the optimum combination of performance, reliability and environmental compatibility. With MotoMix 100, we are taking another step forward in the use of renewable feedstocks and the further development of proven technologies in our centenary year.”
The collaboration between STIHL and Haltermann Carless is an example of a technology-neutral approach to the continued development of powertrain solutions. Alongside battery-electric technologies, renewable fuels can provide an additional route to further developing existing combustion technologies and the applications that rely on them.
For STIHL and Haltermann Carless, this approach combines many years of experience with the ambition to explore new technological pathways. The evolutoin of MotoMix across several generations, culminating in MotoMix 100, demonstrates how a long-term partnership can continuously deliver new solutions for demanding applications.
