The British Touring Car Championship will use Hiperflo® R20, a newly designed racing fuel with 20% renewable components, for the 2022 to 2026 seasons.

Frankfurt a. M., Germany, 5. Oktober 2021 - Haltermann Carless, a company of the HCS Group and a leading supplier of high-value hydrocarbon solutions, will supply the sustainable racing fuel Hiperflo® R20 to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) from 2022 season onwards. Series organiser TOCA selected the new official fuel supplier for the next five years.

“We are delighted to have been chosen yet again by the BTCC to supply our renewable control fuel Hiperflo® R20 to the championship for the next five seasons. Supplying our fuels to the pinnacle of British motorsport only adds to the credibility, pedigree and innovative nature of our products and be, therefore, reflective of our Motorsport industry supplier of choice status“, says Mike Jardine, Sales Manager Racing Fuels at Haltermann Carless.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions with Hiperflo® R20

Hiperflo® R20 has a total of 20% renewable components, comprising 15% second generation ethanol content and 5% of renewable hydrocarbons. This will allow an up to 18% reduction in greenhouse gas emission (GHG) when compared to current pump fuel, significantly lowering the fuel’s impact on the environment.

Although having a 15% ethanol content, Hiperflo® R20 tends to be milder to the fuel system than other higher ethanol content fuels that are available. This is due to its low aromatic content and a particular mix of streams and molecules.

Sustainable fuels will play important role in decarbonisation

“As the world moves to decarbonise the transportation sector, the introduction of Hiperflo® R20 is important. We believe that, along with electrification, renewable and sustainable fuels should play an important part in this movement for road as well as motorsport vehicles. With Hiperflo® R20 containing renewable fuel components, we are making a significant reduction in the amount of CO2 emitted compared to a traditional fuel”, says Adrian Stuart, Sales Executive Performance Fuels at Haltermann Carless, and adds: “We look forward to the next five seasons with the BTCC and will continue our intensive development work of renewable and sustainable fuels.”

Long-term relationship between BTCC and Haltermann Carless

For nearly three decades Haltermann Carless has supplied the control fuel and track side fuel analysis service to BTCC, the premier motorsport series in the UK and one of the best-loved, most illustrious and famous motor racing championships in the world.

Alan Gow, BTCC Chief Executive, says: “As the premier motorsport series in the UK it is only right that the BTCC continues to navigate a more sustainable pathway and we are pleased to be introducing a more sustainable fuel from the 2022 season onwards. Congratulations to Haltermann Carless on its successful tender and we look forward to continuing our working relationship over the next five years.”
